A Tiny Update

Chatting with Richard on the phone, he tells me things are progressing steadily, with the Hussars, Grenadier Carpenters and Kettle Drummer nearly done. Civilians are being worked on as I type. Thinking about the Kettle Drummer in particular and the fact that quite a few people have asked me for Dragoon/Cuirassier Officers on standing/walking horses etc, I have decided to commission two more heavy horses while I have Richard chained to his workbench.

As I only have light horses in standing and walking poses, which are unsuitable for the heavy cavalry figures, coupled with my belief that the Kettle Drummer would look best on a standing or walking horse, Richard will make a walking and a standing heavy horse on top of what he is already doing.

Now his original sculpting list was planned to fill a master mould, but adding two horses to the mix throws that one out the window. As I want the horses on the master mould, it may be the civilians who suffer as a consequence and may not be available until the next master mould, because as you all know, a tightwad Scotsman will not a waste a mould by putting only two horses on it :-) However, I suppose I could splash out on a bigger sized mould and get them all on it . . . we'll see!

As an aside, anybody fancy charging heavy cavalry in the future, in the same style as the existing hussars, with separate sword arms??

"anybody fancy charging heavy cavalry in the future, in the same style as the existing hussars, with separate sword arms?" You bet !!!
That is great news. More heavy horses are most welcome. As long as the civilians are not discarded off your schedule everything is fine as far as I am concerned :-)

All the best,
Axel

An emphatic YES! Frank, you are developing one of the very best mid-18th century ranges out there. Keep going!

Horses are a necessary evil in The Trade because they take the place of two foot figures. I'd rather have the valuable sculpting slots used for foot or riders. Sigh.

I will of course buy anything that you add to the range but would hope to see things like Austrian horse grenadiers, the Greys in mitres or proper Prussian Garde done before doubling up on charging cavalry.

Hello, Frank.
I agree with D.A.F. - I feel there is little need to have the heavies "waving their choppers about like hussars!" I agree with the idea of standing & walking, or even a gentle trot for the heavy horses. I too would prefer to see Austrian, French & Hanoverian horse grenadiers on those extra slots.
Cheers, Rohan.

Hi Frank,

An Artillery officer for each nation would be usefull. Say animated by pointing, spyglass our gestering in some way as commanding the guns.

thanks

Make them all, we'll buy them. Hussars, Heavy Cavalry, Artillery Officers w/spyglass, civilians. Russians, please add Russians!

Huzzah! Standing and walking heavy horses are good news indeed!
Making the civilians wait until these remounts have walked by is entirely in keeping with the period.

Personally I'd like to see Hussars skirmishing on horseback before charging heavies.
And I'll emphatically third the suggestion of artillery officers.

For me Heavy cavalry charging with separate arms its really a great addition to the range ; we already have walking heavy cavalry...
Also Austrian, French & Hanoverian horse grenadiers are welcome.
best regards

Again great news!

Charging heavy cavalry would be surely great, all realised figures are fine :-).
Because momentary i use at least prussian artillery only as regimental piece, there is no officer necessary (for me), or for that i could also use a 'converted' infantry officer. Anyway would be also a good supplement.
But so also my thoughts if charging cavalry perhaps also inf awaiting such riding folks? (Firing, with lowered muskets, flints, etc.)^^

I prefer one piece castings, not separate arms but anything you make I will buy. Great news and best wishes.

Hello again, Frank.

Just a thought as I was making up an flagpole with its finial - If there is a teeny space somewhere on a mould sprue, I wonder if it is possible to get a French finial with cords & cravattes?

Cheers, Rohan.

Separate arms are a pain but if they look like the rest of the line they will be worth the touble. I was wondering about the German States if you had any thoughts on them?
